Newbridge Town 2 v 0 Sallins Celtic, under 13 Premier

A goal at the end of each half by Gary Shaw gave our under-13s a well deserved win.

With the wind at our backs we should have been out of sight by half time as chance after chance was created, but supporters were made to wait until the 25th minute for the opener, an unstoppable freekick from Gary that flew into the top corner of the net.   Sallins nearly equalised in the opening minutes of the second half.   A free kick from a similar spot as the Town goal, was brilliantly saved by keeper Daniel Franz.   A couple of minutes later, a corner from Sallins deceived everyone except fullback Niall McCormack, who cleared off the line.

Sallins had thrown players forward in search of a goal and left gaps at the back.   Adam Tyrell and Gary Shaw both had opportunities to extend the lead, but failed to do so.

Nerves were calmed with 3 minutes left though, when Gary took a pass, surged past 3 defenders and buried the ball in the net.   As good a goal as one could see anywhere.

Sallins may have felt the luck was not with them, but in truth with the number of chances we created, we were good value for the win.

Man of the match was Stephen Foley, closely followed by Gary, Daniel Nea, Michael Barrett, Adam Tyrell and Barry Dempsey.
