Newbridge Town FC V Kilcock Celtic U16 Newbridge Town FC 6 - 1 Kilcock Celtic Kilcock came to Newbridge as the new kids on the block with high hopes in their first game in the Kildare league . Newbridge having won the toss elected to play with the wind and from the start laid siege to the Kilcock defence with wave after wave of attacks lead by Thomas Mc Donnell and Stephen Houlihan ably assisted by the midfield of Ian Rennick, Jamie Potts, Kieran Fitzgerald and Rory Franz. Rory particularly is on his game this season and tormented the Kilcock defence throughout and it was no surprise that he scored a beauty of a goal from a free kick after five mins. Curling the ball into the far left hand corner giving the keeper no chance. Next up was Stephen Houlihan who scored a typical goal using his strength to hold off two defenders and blast the ball to the net to make it two nil after ten mins. Rory Franze popped up on the left wing and from the other side copied his first goal curling the ball over the keeper to the top right hand corner. It looked at this stage that the floodgates would open but to their credit Kilcock regrouped after the initial shock and defended well until just before the break when Jamie Potts latched onto a loose ball and barged through the defence and drove a screamer as he said himself under the keeper to leave the score four nil at the break. If Kilcock had any illusions of getting back into the game these were quickly quashed as Newbridge played even better against the wind and with the defence of Niall Fagan, Danny O`Sullivan and Adam Purewal superbly marshalled by Brian Murphy the find of the season Kilcock found no way through. Adam Purewal was now breaking out of the defence at every opportunity and from one of these raids up field he found Rory Franz with a beautiful through ball , Rory tempted the keeper out and curled a shot around him that looked a goal all the way but at the last struck the post and fell invitingly to Declan McKenna who does not refuse those opportunities to make it Five and soon after Thomas Mc Donnell had the ball in the net for a well deserved goal having worked hard upfront all day. Adam Purewal charging out of the back at will now again found Rory Franz free on the left and it was a race between Rory and the keeper which is what he loves . He arrived in the corner of the penalty area just before keeper, he slipped the ball past and drew the foul which left the referee with no option but to award a penalty. Rory rubbed salt into the wound by taking the penalty himself to make it a hat trick for him With the Newbridge defence now wanting to get in on the act they were caught out with no one at home and Omar Dunne in the Newbridge goal was given no chance with a shot in off the post which ended the scoring and the game . Best for Newbridge was Rory Franz, Brian Murphy, Adam Purewal and Jamie Potts in what was a one sided game |
