Philly Gorman: 100 and counting.   10/08/2016

Kildare soccer legend hits the ton

Congratulations to former Suncroft and Newbridge Town and Kildare County boy Philly Gorman who scored his 100th league goal last night in Waterford United's win over Athlone Town.

In a distinguished career which has seen Philly line up for Kildare County, Dublin City, Shelbourne, Kilkenny City, Athlone Town and Waterford United.

Some of the highlights include the 2013/4 season which saw Philly end up as top scorer in the first division with 17 goals. In addition, he made the team of the year and was voted player of the year.

He also scored the first ever Kildare County goal in a game at Station Road against Limerick ion August 24 2002 before going on to score a total of 27 goals for County which makes him the top scorer in their brief history. He also won player of the year and Supporters Club Player of the year in 2007.

His most prolific spell to date came with Athlone Town when his goals brought them back to the Premier Division in 2014 and he scored 47 league goals in three seasons in Westmeath.

The club and all of its supporters and members would like to wish Philly many congratulations on a great career to date and we are sure there are still a few more goals to come yet as well.
