A closely fought game ended in a 1-0 win for the visitors to station road.
Bush took an early lead and despite some lovely team play from Newbridge they
didn’t have any luck in front of goal. Credit goes to the Bush defense as they

back on level terms. It wasn’t to be their day as Bush held on. Well done to both
sides. Michael O Connell, Adam McHugh and Sean Donohoe all had a great games.

Shane Halloran stood up and fired home with great style to level in the 3rd quarter. In to the last

10th Oct Station road
Allenwood (2-3) NTFC Blue
This was great game played by two evenly matched teams.
The Newbridge boys started strongly and had most of the early play. However it was Allenwood who opened the scoring with a fine goal at the end of Q1, credit to Allenwoods goal keeper who was excellent. Newbridge did make their chances count in Q2 as they went into a deserved lead with goals from Josh Minihan and a fine team effort finished by Rory Scanlon. Q3 saw Allenwood come back at Newbridge but they were unable to get back on terms, mainly down to some fine defending from Sean Donohoe, Ciaran Kerrigan and Michael O Connell. Tadhg Leonard in goal was having a blinder. When Shane Halloran scored a great goal in Q4 it looked over but Allenwood wouldn’t give up and grabbed a second goal to make it a tight finish. It finished 3-2 to Newbridge; special mention to Gavin Mitten who played his heart out and almost created a great goal for Jamie Griffin with a super cross from the wing. Well done to both teams.
17th Oct Station road
NTFC Blue (5-4) Arlington
This was a classic game between two well matched sides. Newbridge went in front against the
run of play when Josh Minihan finished after a smart pass from Luke Carey. Arlington hit back
with a goal from Shane Nealon before Ciaran Kerrigan produced a brilliant solo effort to fire home.
Arlington leveled it up again before half time when Jack Haverty produced a fine finish and only a
brilliant save from Tadhg Leonard kept it at 2-2. The 3rd quarter belonged to Newbridge as they added
three goals, one from Jamie Griffin and 2 from Gavin Mitten. One of Gavin’s goals a neat left foot finish
after a brilliant run and cross from the outstanding Rory Scanlon. Into the last quarter and Arlington
proved their worth by battling back to make it 5-4 with goals from Leah Doyle and Shane Nealon. In addition
Tadhg Leonard saved a penalty and turned another goal bound effort around the post. Adam Mchugh had a great
game at the heart of the Newbridge defence. All in all everybody there was thrilled with the quality
and spirit of the game. Credit to both sides, well done.
24th Oct Fleming Park
Bush Yellow (2-3) NTFC Blue
The Newbridge boys started brightly in this one but Bush were a match for them and it was in Q2
that the scoring started. Two goals from Newbridge new boy Luke Carey and a goal from the impressive
Killian O’Shaughnessy fired the blues into a deserved lead. The held this until the last quarter when
Bush started a revival which netted them two goals. The last few minutes were frantic with both sides
going close but credit to the Newbridge lads they defended well and got a deserved win. Great match lads.
14th Nov Fleming Park
Bush Green (2-3) NTFC Blue
This time against the other Bush team the Newbridge boys fell behind to two early goals only to fight
back and get the win in the end. A goal from the battling Josh Minihan had the boys back in the contest
at half time. Then up stepped Gavin Mitten to score two goals, the second of which a lovely volley to fire
the Blues into a lead. Despite a frantic last quarter these two well matched teams didn’t add to the score
and it was the Newbridge boys who came away with their 2nd win over a Bush team in 3 weeks. Nice going boys,
keep it up.
23rd Jan Station road
NTFC Blue (5-5) NTFC Yellow
This was a cracker of a game with two very evenly matched sides sharing the spoils in a 5-5 draw. It was
the Newbridge Blues who raced into an early lead with Luke Carey grabbing two goals in Q1, the first a
brilliant individual run and finish. The Blues continued to press and extended their lead in Q2 with
goals from Josh Minihan and Ciaran Kerrigan after fine team build-up play for both. The Yellows never
gave up the fight and they got a deserved goal back through their man-of-the match Josh Burns. The Yellows
fight-back gathered further momentum in Q3 and they got right back into the contest with goals from the
outstanding Peter Murphy and Eoin Meehan. The Blues steadied themselves however and added a goal
from hard working Robert Ryan. Robert was the Blues team player of the match. Into Q4 now and the Yellows
completed the comeback with two well taken goals, one each from Jimmy O’Neill and Peter Murphy to level the
game. The last few minutes were frantic, both sides had chances to snatch a late winner but it wasn’t to be.
Credit to both defenses and to the Blues Goalie Tadhg Leonard who pulled off an outstanding save. Overall a
fair result on the day in this very enjoyable local derby. Well done lads!
6th Feb Station Road
NTFC Blue (1-4) Kilcullen
The result of this game didn’t reflect the honest effort and hard work of the Newbridge boys. It was a great
team effort with all contributing a lot; here are some of the best bits: Tadhgs kick-outs were very good,
getting a good distance; Josh’s tackling was fierce and determined, he was great and following up, and unlucky
not to score; Roberts ball control was good, he attacked a ball with his head, good to see listening in
training; Ciaran’s work rate was excellent and he was unlucky to be fouled while through on goal; Michael
defended well with good ball striking; Adams ball striking was very good and his marking was very good;
Rory’s dribbling was very good, and a great effort with the free kick, unlucky not to score; Killian’s goal
was very well taken, good overall performance; Jake defended well in his first game; Gavin battled and
marked well, trapping one kick-out very well to get the ball under control; Sean defended well and stopped
many of their attacks, good ball control; Luke worked very hard for the team with some nice passing; Shane
battled hard and had some great passing and movement. If the lads show the same fight and determination they
will many games.
13th Feb Station Road
Bush Celtic Yellow (5 – 3) NTFC Blue
This was a cracker with the Newbridge boys just loosing out after a thrilling fight back late on. The match
started brightly with both teams going close in the opening minutes. Newbridge pressed with Luke Carey
outstanding up front and Gavin Mitten moving the ball well from the wing. It was however Bush who scored
first and they added a second from a free kick to end the half 2 up. The Newbridge boys continued to work
hard and got a goal through Luke Carey who was excellent overall. Bush were on fire now and added 3 goals
to build a handsome lead. Into the last quarter and all credit to the Blues who battled hard and got two goals
back, one from Rory Scanlon and the other from Ciaran Kerrigan after his brilliant run into the box ended with
a penalty award. Ciaran stood up to fire home the spot kick. The Bush goalie Alex Fleming was the star now as
he saved attempt after attempt from Newbridge. It ended 5-3 to Bush but the Blues were unlucky not to a least
get back on level terms. Special mention to Killian O’Shaughnessy who never stopped battling through-out and
also to Michael O Connell who stood in as goalie for one quarter at short notice.
Well done lads.
20th Feb Kilcullen
Kilcullen AFC (2-2) NTFC Blue
The Blues continued their recent good form with another fine team performance. They can consider themselves unlucky not to have won this one but credit to Kilcullen who fought hard through-out.
It was Kilcullen who took the lead before Newbridge equalised in Q2, a low drive from Gavin Mitten
was deflected into his own net by a Kilcullen defender. Against the run of play Kilcullen took the lead again but once again the Blues fought back and equalised through a close in finish from Shane Halloran scoring on his Birthday! After this it was all Newbridge and they came so close to another on several ocassions. Special mention to Jake Loakman who defender brilliantly in only his 3rd game.
Killian O'Shaughnessy and Robert Ryan deserve special mention also for fine battling displays. Josh
Minihan was team player of the match, switching to defender from his usual striker role and playing
a great game. WEll done lad, keep it up.
27th Feb Rathangan
Rathangan (0-3) NTFC Blue
This a confident display from all the Newbridge boys who got the result that their recent good form deserved. It was a quality 1st quarter from both teams with Robert Ryan in great tackling
form for Newbridge. Credit to Michael O Connell who did well playing in his new striker role.
The blues went ahead in the 2nd Q through a well taken drive from Shane
Halloran who looked lively throughout. They pressed their advantage in Q3 and added to their lead
after some fine team passing and battling. Luke Carey showing his continuing improvement to be in
the right place to slot home close in. Into the final quarter now and the Newbridge boys were well on top and thanks to a great defending display from Adam McHugh and Jake Loakman it would stay that way. The icing on the cake was a third goal from the impressive Robert Ryan. Robert had showed great
awareness earlier with some fine passing but on this occasion he showed his strikers instinct to
run through on goal and finish with style into the bottom corner. Robert was the team player of the
match for his tackling, passing and movement. Well done to Robert and all the boys. Special mention for Tadhg Leonard who pulled off a wonderful save in Q3 to keep the score at 0-2.
6th March Kilcullen
NTFC (4-0) Kilcullen
After a recent defeat and a draw to this tough Kilcullen team the Newbridge boys went in search of a good
result. They did it in some style with every kids out there today putting on a fine footballing display.
In Q1 Josh Minihan and and Sean Donohoe were in charge giving the Kilcullen forwards nothing.
This allowed the Midfield of Gavin Mitten and Rory Scanlon to get forward and support Robert and Michael.
Michael O Connell had a great game today, showing nice control and awareness on the ball. 0-0 at the
end of Q1 it didn't take long for the Blues to get their noses ahead in Q2 after Luke Carey finished
neatly from close in. It was deserved as the boys were piling on the pressure with fine passing from Ciaran Kerrigan and Shane Halloran in particular. When the excellent Killian O Shaughnessy fired in
another from the edge of the box, the result was never in doubt. The blues were unstoppable and got
another goal to close a fantastic quarter 3 up. This time Killian chased and stopped a ball crossing
the end line and somehow chipped it back over the defenders to the waiting Luke who was calmly took
the ball down and fired home, what a goal!! Into Q3 and again the Blues pressed hard with Rory and
Gavin controlling Midfield and Josh and Sean again in fine form at the back. The boys added a forth to
kill the game off when Robert Ryan again showed his fine control and skill with a run and finish to
the corner of the net. Robert is in fine form of late! Into the last and the Blues balanced looking
for another goal with making sure they kept it tight at the back. There was no getting past Adam and
Jake today at the back and the game finished 4-0 to the blues. It'd be easy to give everybody team
player of the match today but special mention to Killian who was excellent and also to Luke Carey who
is listening at training and really got to the ball first today and gave his marker a tough time!
Well done to all the boys
13th March Allenwood
NTFC Blue (2-0) Allenwood
This was a great game at station road with the Blues continuing where they left off last week. Credit to Allenwood who battled well through-out and only for some outstanding Newbridge defending and goalkeeping they surely would have got a goal. The match started brightly and after a tight opening quarter Rory Scanlon and Gavin Mitten combined on the edge of the Allenwood box to put the blues ahead early in Q2. Gavin collected a return pass from Rory before rounding a defender and slotting home with his left foot for a nice finish. All the lads were on form today but a special mention for both Jake Loakman and Adam McHugh who are forming a great partnership at the back of late. Adams reading of the game was great today. Also in Q2 defender Sean Donohoe thrilled those watching when he broke up an Allenwood attack and stepped into midfield before placing a great long range pass at the foot of Robert Ryan. Sean is really playing great stuff at present and was team player of the match today along with Tadhg Leonard in goal. Tadhg pulled off a wonderful save diving full length to turn a fierce effort around the post, his overall performance was outstanding today. Into Q3 and the Newbridge boys pressed hard for another goal with Ciaran Kerrigan and Shane Halloran combining well and Killian O'Shaughnessy causing Allenwood all sorts of problems. However it was still 1-0 at the start of the last Quarter when the in form Robert Ryan stepped up to finish things off, collecting his third goal in three games. This was an outstanding finish from the sharp shooter after some great team play involving Michael O'Connell. Overall a great display from the lads. Well done to both teams for an entertaining game.
20th March Arlington
Arlington (2-3) NTFC Blue
Arlington started well in this game with the Newbridge boys a bit slow to get going. As a result Arlington took a well deserved 1 goal lead in Q1. Into the second quarter and the Blues started to get to grips with the game and got their reward when Ciaran Kerrigan scored a great goal when he lifted the ball neatly over the keeper to level. In the third quarter Gavin Mitten scored to put the blues ahead and in form Michael O’Connell hit the post with a great shot! Newbridge were on top now and Rory Scanlon played in Robert Ryan to score and make it 3-1. This was Roberts 4th goal in 4 games so well done. In the last quarter Newbridge had some great chances to score more goals but it wasn’t to be. Just near the end Arlington got a penalty to make it 3-2 but the Newbridge boys piled on the pressure and forced 5 corners in a row. Josh Minihan and Sean Donohoe were again outstanding at the back today while Ciaran, Rory, Gavin and Killian worked very hard. Shane, Luke, Robert, Michael and Jake gave their all and Adam had another fantastic game at the back. Tadhg was great as ever between the posts for Newbridge. Credit to Arlington who played very well could count themselves a bit unlucky not get more out of the game. Well done to both sides.
3rd April Station Road
Newbridge Town Blue (2-4) Kilcullen
These two teams have met regularly lately and this time it was the visitors to Station road who prevailed in
a tight game. Newbridge town started brightly and were unlucky to go behind in the 1st quarter. Kilcullen
scored again in Q2 to lead at half time. This was despite the best efforts of forwards Robert Ryan and
Michael O’Connell and defender Adam McHugh who was outstanding and was today’s team player of the match.
It was Kilcullen who struck again in Q3 before Newbridge finally got off the mark when Killian O’Shaughnessy
scored a great individual goal. Killian retrieved a ball from the end line before striking home at the near
post. Into the final quarter and the Newbridge boys gave it everything but could get back on terms. Robert Ryan
added a second goal, his impressive recent run continues. Kilcullen also added a forth goal to complete their win.
Josh Minihan and Jake Loakman had fine games for the Newbridge boys. Well done to both teams.
10th April Station Road
Rathangan (5-2) NTFC Blue
This end of season game provided a good opportunity for players to play in different
positions. Credit to Gavin, Michael, Jake, Robert, Ciaran, Adam, Killian and Sean who
were all asked to try different positions today. The lads did very well against an improved
Rathangan side. In fact the Blues took an early 2 goal lead through Ciaran Kerrigan and Luke Carey who finished after great work from the impressive Shane Halloran. Shane was one of todays Team
players of the match. Shane showed all his ball control and dribbling skills today and setup Luke for
his goal with an excellent run and cross. Rathangan bounced back strongly in Q3 and led 5-2 by the end;
they took their chances very well. Special mention to Gavin Mitten who pulled off two fines saves in
goal and made a good effort playing in an unfamiliar defensive role too. Gavin and Robert were the
games other Team players of the match. Robert played in defense in Q1 and his tackling and positioning
were excellent. Well done to both teams.

NTFC Yellow (5-6) NTFC Blue
The Newbridge Blues just edged this 11-goal thriller at Station Road. They led 2-0 at the end of Q1
courtesy of two goals from Luke Carey, the first of which was a stunning volley from distance, goal
of the season! The Yellows got one back through Eoin Meehan before Rory Scanlon launched a corner
kick into the net to restore the two goal lead at 3-1. But as usual when these two teams meet there
was a comeback; the yellows hit back well with goals from Eoghan Molloy, Ronan Cooney and Aaron Martin
to lead 4-3 in Q3. Then the blues were awarded a penalty and the ever cool headed Shane Halloran slotted
home to tie the match. All present knew we were in for a great finish as both teams were really
going for it now and more goals were certain to follow. Right on cue Luke Carey struck to complete
his hat-trick and edge the Blues into the lead at 5-4. This was a great goal, started by Ciaran Kerrigan
clearing his lines, passing to Shane who dropped into midfield to collect the ball before turning and
slotting a great pass to Luke who controlled before picking his spot. The Yellows didn’t give up and
got a goal back to level again through Aaron Martin who fired home expertly. The match looked like
ending all square but Gavin Mitten and Robert Ryan had other ideas, Gavin held off a challenge from
Josh Burns, looked up to see Robert in position and passed into the space for Robert to fire home and
give the Blues the win 6-5. What a game, enjoyed by all present! Ciaran Kerrigan was one of the Blues
teams’ players of the match for his tireless tracking back and helping out his team mates. Another team
player of the match was Tadhg Leonard who showed all his skills today. Well done lads.
